Filing guide
What a BMC-35 cancellation list actually tells you
A cancellation-effective date is a regulatory filing event. It is useful for timing, but it is not automatically a private-policy expiration date or proof that a carrier will become uninsured.
CANCEL and TERM/REPL are not interchangeable
Current Motus history can contain effective cancellations and combined termination/replacement labels. A TERM/REPL row may be associated with an ordinary policy replacement. Treating every row as a distressed buyer creates avoidable false positives.
The replacement check
CarrierOwl compares the affected filing with other visible active or pending records using USDOT number, docket number, insurance type and insurance class. A match lowers urgency. No match increases attention, but still does not prove that no later or private coverage exists.
A defensible outreach workflow
- Confirm active operating authority.
- Read the raw filing status and effective date.
- Check for another comparable public filing.
- Verify the latest official record before quoting.
- Follow applicable calling, email and suppression rules.
